Mobile Phone Cover

We offer cover for your electrical items including iPhone and Android mobile phones, computers, video recorders and cameras, but limits apply as show in the below table.

What exclusions apply to mobile phone cover? 

Be careful with your electronic items when you travel. We do not cover for damages to your mobile phone, laptop or tablet screen, or for any liquid damages.  

We do not cover for any loss or damage to mobile phones, tablets, cameras, video cameras etc or their accessories after you have checked them into the hold and until you have collected them again from the luggage conveyor as the transport provider is at fault for the loss or damage, you should seek compensation from them.

What do I need in order to claim?

If your iPhone or Android phone is lost or stolen and you wish to claim on your travel insurance, it pays to get all required documents ready to help with your claim. As a minimum we need to have the Make, Model, Proof of Purchase and IMEI number of the phone. As well as evidence of loss with a written report from the police for example. 

Need more cover?

If you have an iPhone or Android smartphone, or another item that you’d like to insure for a higher limit, we have the option for you to specify additional high value items up to $5,000. If you don’t want depreciation to apply, high value items must be less than 12 months old, and you must have the original receipt. You cannot add extra cover for jewellery, bicycles, watches and watercraft (other than surfboards) with 1Cover policies.  

What is Depreciation?

Depreciation is the reduction in value of your items over time due to use, wear and tear and obsolescence (reduction in value due to changes in technology or fashion). 

does 1Cover apply depreciation?

Yes, once you’ve made a claim and it’s been accepted, the value of your claim may then depreciate depending on how old the item is and how much its original purchase price was. 

At 1Cover, we do not apply depreciation to luggage and personal effects purchased during your Journey, Specified High-Value items listed on your Certificate of Insurance, or items purchased duty free prior to your departure. 
Subject to the item sub-limits set out in the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS), the most we will pay is the original purchase price of any item less any depreciation that applies. Learn about how we calculate depreciation here. 

does can i avoid depreciation being applied?

Depreciation will not be applied if items are specified as high value items on your certificate of insurance, are less than 12 months old, and you have the original receipt for the purchase of the item.
